The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has issued a stern directive to Nigerian troops, urging them to eliminate terrorists without mercy. Speaking at the conclusion of the COAS biannual conference in Maiduguri, Oluyede emphasized the urgency of wiping out all terrorist elements threatening Nigeria’s peace and stability.

He stressed that there must be no leniency in confronting these threats, labeling the terrorists as enemies seeking to destroy the nation’s foundations.
Oluyede highlighted the critical nature of the discussions held during the three-day conference, noting that every decision made must be implemented to strengthen national security. He revealed plans to induct additional combat enablers into ongoing military operations in the coming weeks, but underscored that the true strength of the Nigerian Army lies not just in weaponry, but in the resilience and willpower of its soldiers.
He called on commanding officers to demonstrate exemplary leadership by mentoring the next generation of soldiers and guiding them with clarity and purpose. According to the COAS, Nigeria faces a formidable adversary intent on tearing apart its socio-cultural heritage, and the army must act decisively to prevent such destruction. He stressed that unity, discipline, and courage are essential in defeating this persistent threat.
Concluding his address, Oluyede praised the intellectual depth and strategic foresight displayed during the conference. He described the session outcomes as exceeding his expectations and promised that the suggestions made will be actively integrated into current and future military engagements. The COAS reaffirmed the army’s commitment to protecting the nation and transforming its defense posture to meet emerging security challenges.
