Dele Momodu, a former presidential candidate and key figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called for the opposition to present a strong Northern candidate to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections. In an interview on Arise TV, Momodu criticized the opportunistic nature of Nigerian politics and the PDP’s internal divisions, warning that the party risks collapse without urgent reforms.

He emphasized that Northern voters feel marginalized under Tinubu’s administration, making a Northern candidate essential for mobilizing support. Momodu dismissed the chances of a Southern challenger and advocated for coalition politics involving influential Northern figures like Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso. He defended Atiku Abubakar’s integrity but stressed the strategic need to focus on regional dynamics to counter Tinubu’s dominance.
