NiDCOM Seeks Release of Detained Nigerian Tourists in Cape Verde

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has expressed concern over the detention of six Nigerian tourists by Cape Verdean immigration authorities.

The group, which had traveled from Senegal to Cape Verde for vacation, was detained at the airport on allegations of insufficient funds. Their mobile phones were confiscated, and they were placed in an immigration deportation camp.

NiDCOM reported that one of the tourists is in poor health and denied access to medication. The commission has urged Cape Verdean authorities to treat the detainees with dignity and facilitate their return to Dakar, Senegal, for onward travel to Nigeria. The case has been reported to Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for further diplomatic engagement.

“We appeal to the Immigration authorities in Cape Verde to please treat the tourists with respect and dignity and put them on the next immediate return flight to Dakar for onward connection back to Nigeria.

“The families of these young Nigerians ranging between 25 and 31 years have been expectedly worried about the safety of their children.

“The tourists are David James Udoh, Lily Dada, Oghenero Adaware, Sherifat Abimbola Ogundairo and Jesutomi Aina,”
