Afenifere Condemns Song Ban, Urges Tinubu to Address Insecurity and Restructure Nigeria

A faction of the Pan-Yoruba sociopolitical group, Afenifere, loyal to the late Chief Ayo Adebanjo, has criticized President Bola Tinubu over the ban of Eedris Abdulkareem’s song “Tell Your Papa”. The group described the move as a violation of free speech and an indication of autocratic leadership. Afenifere argued that the song was a legitimate response to comments made by the President’s son and warned that the ban undermines democracy and stifles artistic expression.

The group also raised alarm over worsening insecurity in Nigeria, citing the deaths of 1,420 people and the kidnapping of 537 others within the first quarter of 2025. They highlighted attacks in Ondo, Benue, Edo, and Nasarawa states and called for an urgent ban on open grazing, the adoption of ranching, and the creation of state police.

Afenifere further urged the Federal Government to restructure the country in line with true federalism to ensure equity, justice, and lasting peace.
