Makinde Signals Readiness for 2027 Presidency, Prioritizes Party Stability

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has declared that he has the capacity to become Nigeria’s president in 2027. Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Makinde expressed confidence in his leadership abilities, citing his performance as governor as proof of his readiness for the country’s highest office. However, he emphasized that his ambition is not solely a personal decision, as it must align with the will of the people and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He stressed that the immediate focus should be on rebuilding and stabilizing the PDP to create a viable platform for any future aspirations.

Makinde made it clear that he is committed to purposeful and accountable governance, rejecting stunt or populist politics. He affirmed that any political step he takes will be based on thorough preparation and a clear sense of responsibility. Reflecting on his political journey, which began with an unsuccessful bid for the Senate in 2007, Makinde expressed satisfaction with his progress, especially his current role as governor. He noted that even if his political career were to end now, he would remain content with the contributions he has made and the trust people have placed in him.
