Karu Bridge Crash Survivor: ‘People Filmed Us Instead of Helping’ — ABU Graduate Recounts Tragic Scene

Emmanuel Abbah, a Physics graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, has described his survival from the Karu Bridge fire accident as a miracle. Abbah, who sustained a broken leg and a nearly detached wrist, was one of only three survivors from a car crushed and burned under a gas tanker during a traffic jam.

Speaking from his hospital bed, he recounted the horror how his car was crushed, caught fire before the tanker exploded, and how he crawled out of the wreckage despite severe injuries.

He lamented that instead of helping, many bystanders were filming the burning victims. “Nigerians are strange people,” he said, calling out the public’s indifference and the sluggish emergency response.

He also revealed that another Dangote trailer accident happened on the same road a day later, with more casualties.

Abbah is urging stricter enforcement of road safety regulations and restrictions on heavy-duty trucks during peak hours.
