Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Adewole Adebayo, revealed that Labour Party’s Peter Obi may soon join the SDP, following former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Adebayo claimed he received reliable information about ongoing talks between Obi and the SDP leadership.
Although Obi has consistently stated that he remains a member of the Labour Party, Adebayo maintained that key figures like El-Rufai, Atiku Abubakar, and Obi are in discussions to join the SDP. He emphasized that new members must adapt to the party’s transparent and rule-based political culture, which, he claims, distinguishes the SDP from other parties.
Adebayo expressed confidence that a united and disciplined opposition within the SDP could defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and “retire President Tinubu” politically.
