Why I Visited Tinubu – Ghana’s President Mahama

Ghanaian President John Mahama has explained the reasons behind his visit to President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, on Thursday.

Mahama stated that he came to express gratitude to Tinubu for attending his inauguration and to update him on diplomatic efforts with the military leaders of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso, aimed at addressing regional security and stability.

This marks Mahama’s first official visit to the Presidential Villa since his swearing-in on January 7, 2025.

Speaking on the visit, Tinubu said:
“I feel good that he is here. I am happy with the efforts he has made to bridge the gap between AES countries and ECOWAS. Given the security situation in the Sahel region, we must work together to ensure stability and economic prosperity for our people.”

Mahama also emphasized the importance of continued dialogue with the Sahelian nations, stating

“As ECOWAS Chairman, it is my duty to brief President Tinubu on the concerns raised during my visits to Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. The situation is complex, and we must keep engaging to find solutions.”
