Senate President Godswill Akpabio has dismissed claims that senators were bribed with $15,000 to support the proclamation of a state of emergency in Rivers State. Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio described the allegations as a baseless hate campaign.

Social media rumors suggested that he distributed $5,000 on Tuesday and $10,000 on Wednesday during a Ramadan fast-breaking event at his Maitama residence. However, Eyiboh refuted the claims, stating that Akpabio has hosted such gatherings before without controversy.
The Senate and House of Representatives passed the emergency rule proclamation through a unanimous voice vote.
