After nearly a year of seeking justice, the family of 18-year-old Chinedu Ukwu, who was stabbed to death by suspected cultists in Arochukwu, Abia State, has scheduled his burial for Saturday, March 22, 2025.

Chinedu was allegedly murdered on April 3, 2024, by three cult members—Okorafor, John, and Chenemerem Nwosu—after resisting their attempts to forcefully initiate him. Vigilantes swiftly arrested two of the suspects, but Okorafor later escaped during a jailbreak on April 14, 2024. Despite police assurances of an ongoing manhunt, he remains at large, with only one suspect currently on trial.
A family member, Ezuma, confirmed the burial plans, revealing that the case had been transferred from Umuahia to Arochukwu, where Chinedu’s parents have been attending court proceedings.
Cult-related violence continues to plague Abia State, with other victims including Emmanuel Uche, a final-year student at Abia State University, who was shot dead by suspected cultists. Police have arrested one suspect in connection with his murder.
