Customs Intercepts Undeclared $1.1M at Kano Airport

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has seized $1.1 million and 135,900 Saudi Riyals at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.

According to NCS spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada, officers discovered the undeclared cash hidden inside packs of palm dates during a routine baggage check on a passenger arriving from Saudi Arabia on Flight SV401.

The suspect and the seized money have been handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for further investigation. A court has since convicted the suspect, ordering the forfeiture of the funds to the Federal Government under the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

The NCS has reiterated the importance of declaring cash exceeding the approved limit when entering or leaving Nigeria, as required by financial regulations.
