Former Kaduna State Governor,Nasiru El-Rufai, has revealed that he sought the permission of former President Muhammadu Buhari before leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Speaking in a BBC Hausa interview, he criticized APC for straying from its founding principles, accusing the party of being commercialized, neglecting loyal members, and favoring certain individuals for appointments.
El-Rufai claimed he was sidelined in party affairs and insisted that he did not leave the party but was abandoned.
Addressing speculation that he left due to being denied a ministerial role, he dismissed it as a misconception, alleging that some individuals paid for ministerial positions in President Tinubu’s government. He stated that Tinubu personally begged him to join his administration to resolve the country’s electricity issues, but he remained skeptical about the government’s commitment to its promises.
