The Borno State Police Command has arrested two suspects, Umar Grema (26) and Mohammed Bukar (28), known for defrauding Point of Sale (POS) operators in Maiduguri while dressed in military uniforms. According to ASP Nahum Daso, the suspects had long been on the police watchlist due to repeated fraud cases.
They were apprehended on January 22, 2025, near the Post Office area while attempting another scam. Victims reported that one suspect wore a military singlet, impersonating a soldier to gain trust.
Recovered items included two Android phones, four ATM cards, a military camouflage vest, and ₦100,000. The case remains under investigation, with plans to charge the suspects to court. The police urged POS operators to remain cautious during transactions.
