Immigrants Should Wait 15 Years to Gain British Citizenship

Kemi Badenoch: Foreign Workers Must Wait 10 Years for UK Settlement, Illegal Migrants Barred for Life

Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch has announced plans to double the waiting period for foreign workers to obtain indefinite leave to remain, increasing it from five to ten years. Under the new rules, applicants must never have claimed benefits or social housing and must prove they are net contributors to the UK economy.

Badenoch also declared that anyone entering the UK illegally will be permanently banned from obtaining citizenship. She argued that immigration levels have been too high for proper integration and pledged to slow down the path to citizenship.

Under the current system, immigrants can apply for settled status after five years, with full citizenship available after six. The new proposal would extend this process to 15 years for legal immigrants, while permanently barring illegal entrants from ever settling in the UK.
