PDP Crisis Deepens as Leadership Dispute Over Rivers State Lingers

The internal crisis within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) continues as Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, refuted claims by National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, that the National Working Committee (NWC) had accepted a court ruling on the Rivers State PDP executive.

At a press conference in Abuja, Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, criticized Ologunagba for allegedly making unauthorized statements, describing his actions as personally motivated.

The controversy stems from an ongoing power struggle between Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, over the party structure in the state.

A court ruling on January 13, 2025, barred Wike-backed executives from functioning, leading Ologunagba to announce the NWC’s recognition of Fubara’s faction. However, Abdullahi denied this, stating that the NWC had not convened or made any such decision. He accused Ologunagba of overstepping his authority and acting without official approval.

Attempts to reach Ologunagba for a response were unsuccessful.
