A total of 260 middle cadre Nigerian Army officers are participating in the 2025 Senior Staff Course Qualifying Examination at the Infantry Corps Centre in Jaji, Kaduna State. Conducted by the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), the exam is a crucial step in the officers’ career progression, covering eight subjects including tactics, low-intensity conflict, geopolitics, and military law. Maj.-Gen. Kelvin Aligbe, President of the Examination Board, stressed the importance of merit, integrity, and transparency in the process.

Aligbe told candidates that a minimum score of 50% in all subjects was required to qualify for the Armed Forces Command and Staff College. He assured them that success was possible without malpractice, noting that most candidates were attempting the exam for the first time, while a few were on their second attempt. Army policy allows a maximum of three attempts to pass. The results will influence future leadership selection within the Nigerian Army.
To encourage excellence, Aligbe announced the introduction of ‘Certificates of Excellence’ and ‘Letters of Commendation’ for the top three candidates, alongside cash awards. These recognitions will be forwarded to Army Headquarters for inclusion in the recipients’ personal files. He emphasised that the exam would help produce the next generation of leaders for the army.
Earlier, Commander of the Infantry Corps, Maj.-Gen. Usman Yusuf, thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, and other senior officers for their support. He highlighted the significance of the exam for career advancement, urged candidates to give their best effort, and warned against malpractice, reminding them of the limited number of attempts allowed.
