A new world map designed to present Africa in a way that more accurately reflects the continent’s actual size has been reportedly adopted by the United Nations.

Africa is often portrayed as significantly smaller than it really is on traditional maps, while regions closer to the poles, such as Europe and North America, appear disproportionately large.
The move highlights long-standing concerns over the way conventional world maps, particularly those based on the Mercator projection, distort the relative sizes of countries and continents.
The development has renewed conversations about geographical representation and the importance of using maps that give people a more accurate understanding of Africa’s vast landmass and its position in the world.
