UAE Launches Falcon Arabic, the Region’s Top AI Language Model

The United Arab Emirates has unveiled Falcon Arabic, a new Arabic-language artificial intelligence model, claiming it to be the best-performing in the Arab world. This model is an extension of Falcon, an open-source AI developed in 2023 by the Technology Innovation Institute in Abu Dhabi, as part of the UAE’s broader strategy to become a global AI leader.

Faisal Al-Bannai, secretary general of Abu Dhabi’s Advanced Technology Research Council, emphasized the importance of Arabic integration, expressing pride in creating a high-performing model tailored to the Arab region. Falcon Arabic was trained on a diverse range of Arabic dialects, enabling it to offer strong linguistic capabilities while rivaling much larger AI models in performance.

Alongside Falcon Arabic, the council introduced Falcon H1, a model specifically designed to operate with lower computational requirements. This development aims to make advanced AI systems more accessible by reducing the need for extensive technical expertise and high computing power.

In a related development, the UAE and the United States signed a new AI agreement during former U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to Abu Dhabi last week. The deal includes significant Emirati investment in American data centers, highlighting the UAE’s growing involvement in the global AI infrastructure and its deepening tech partnership with the U.S.
