In a shocking development, the Enugu State Police Command has apprehended two sisters, Juliet Chukwu and Ngozi Nancy Chukwu, for allegedly orchestrating the kidnap of their elder brother, Mr. Friday Chukwu. Both women, who serve in Nigerian security agencies—Juliet in the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps and Ngozi in the Nigeria Immigration Service—are from Amaeze village, Ishiagu in Ebonyi State. Reports indicate they masterminded the abduction along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway near the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla, leading to a ransom of N30 million being paid for their brother’s release.
Further investigations revealed that the two sisters were also involved in another kidnapping case involving the General Manager of China Oriental Mining Company, Engr. Dennis Igwe, who was abducted in the same area. The sisters were arrested in a hotel while attempting to share N10 million in ransom proceeds from this second kidnapping. Their arrest has triggered widespread calls for strict disciplinary actions from their respective security agencies.
Social media activist, Comrade Chika Nwoba, highlighted the gravity of the situation on Facebook, calling for a thorough probe. He emphasized that the sisters have long been suspected of involvement in various crimes around Ishiagu, including collaborating with criminal gangs, vandalism, and staging fake kidnappings. He urged the relevant authorities not to downplay the seriousness of their actions and demanded decisive punishment.
The Chairman of Ivo Local Government Area, Chief Emmanuel Ajah, confirmed the arrests and acknowledged that although the crimes occurred in Enugu State, they involved residents of his community. He noted that two of the accused have been captured, while four accomplices are still at large. He has contacted both the Enugu and Ebonyi commands of the Civil Defense Corps and is committed to ensuring security in his locality.
As of press time, the Ebonyi State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement regarding the case. Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, were unsuccessful. The public now awaits how both the police and the sisters’ security agencies will handle this alarming breach of trust and law.
