On Friday night President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was in a closed-door meeting with th Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Tosin Adeola Ajayi to received a security briefing.
The meeting was conffirmed in a statement issued by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Although details of the briefing were not made public, Onanuga said the Director General of the DSS presented a comprehensive assessment of Nigeria’s current security challenges and counter-measures being deployed nationwide.
He noted that the meeting was part of the administration’s routine engagements with security heads as government intensifies efforts against banditry, terrorism and other emerging threats. Friday’s briefing follows a string of violent incidents across the North, including school abductions in Niger and Kebbi states, church attacks in Kwara, and growing fears in Plateau and Nasarawa.
The meeting also came hours after the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, acknowledged the rising death toll across the country but insisted that government is taking “significant steps” to address the crisis.
“Yes, we have people being killed, no doubt about that, and the government is not shying away or denying this,” Idris said during an appearance on Channels Television.
He attributed the killings to religious tensions, economic pressures and long-standing communal clashes, particularly in the Middle Belt. Idris however, dismissed claims of Christian genocide, arguing that extremist groups have targeted both Muslims and Christians.
