President Ramaphosa Refutes Trump’s Land Confiscation Claims

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa dismissed claims by Donald Trump that his government is “confiscating” land and treating certain groups unfairly. Trump’s comments referred to a recent land expropriation act allowing “nil compensation” in certain cases.

Ramaphosa clarified that the act follows a constitutionally mandated process ensuring equitable land access and does not permit arbitrary seizures.

He expressed willingness to discuss land reform with the US administration, emphasizing that aside from PEPFAR’s HIV/AIDS aid, the US provides no significant funding to South Africa. Despite disagreements, the US remains a key political and trade partner.
