Political Crisis in Rivers State: Fubara and Nweke Trade Accusations Amid Bombings and Assembly Fire

The political crisis in Rivers State has intensified as suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former Head of Service (HOS) Dr. George Nweke exchange accusations over recent violent incidents. Nweke, who recently resigned, claims Fubara orchestrated the burning of the Rivers State House of Assembly and the bombing of oil pipelines to prevent his impeachment and destabilize the federal government. He alleges that Fubara’s suspended Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, executed the assembly fire under direct orders.

Fubara, in response, dismisses Nweke’s claims as false, asserting that Nweke has been compromised to discredit him. He maintains his administration has always promoted peace.

Adding to the controversy, Nweke’s wife, Florence, claims her husband may have been abducted and forced to make these statements, as he seemed unrecognizable in a televised interview. The unfolding drama raises concerns about the state’s stability and ongoing political maneuvering.
