Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has formally submitted a proposal to Nigeria’s opposition coalition, committing to a single four-year presidential term if elected in 2027. The announcement was made by Dr. Yinusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, during a chieftaincy title ceremony where Obi was honored as ‘Sarki Maskan’ (War Hero).
Tanko emphasized that Obi’s single-tenure offer is a sign of his integrity and readiness, noting that the former Anambra governor believes four years is sufficient to transform the nation. He stated that Obi’s priorities include stabilizing electricity, boosting exports, and ensuring Nigeria’s economic resurgence. The proposal, though not constitutionally required, is being considered by the coalition as a serious commitment to reform.
In a recent X Spaces live session, Obi reaffirmed his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election and reiterated his willingness to serve only one term. According to Tanko, this self-imposed limit underscores Obi’s focused leadership style and clear plan for national development.
