The unexpected dead of an eighteen year old medical student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Timilehin Adetoye Toromade reportedly died in his sleep in the early hours of January 6, 2026, leaving the university community in shock and deep sorrow has been announced by the management of the institute.

While extending sympathy and support to the family of the deceased, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, expressed heartfelt condolences, describing the loss as a painful tragedy that has left a significant void among the student’s peers and the wider academic community.
He highlighted Timilehin’s dedication to medical training and his promising future aimed at serving humanity.
OAU management is working closely with relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the student’s death in accordance with medical and administrative protocols. The university has also arranged support services to assist students and staff affected emotionally by this loss.
