In its commitment to protectting the N8geria’s security interest, the Nigerian Army has been named Africa’s Best National Army in Counter-Terrorism Operations for 2025 by African Security Watch. According to a statement by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, the recognition reflects the Army’s operational successes, strategic leadership and sustained efforts in combating terrorism and violent extremism across Nigeria.
The award was presented to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja by Maj. Gen. Teriworie Gagariga, who had earlier received it on the Army’s behalf during the African Security Watch Awards Ceremony held in Banjul, The Gambia. Shaibu described the honour as a tribute to the courage, professionalism and resilience of Nigerian soldiers defending the nation’s sovereignty.
The Chief of Army Staff dedicated the award to personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty and to their families, noting that their sacrifice continues to inspire the Army’s mission. He also reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to sustaining its achievements through enhanced intelligence-led operations, stronger inter-agency collaboration, improved training, better personnel welfare and the acquisition of modern military capabilities.
