The Children Empowerment Fund has expressed concern over poor menstrual health among young girls in Nigeria, revealing that many are forced to use newspapers, cotton wool, and cloth due to poverty and lack of awareness.

Speaking at the launch of the Red Bloom Box Project in Ogun State, Programme Manager Temitope Akinrotimi highlighted the risks of using unhygienic materials, which could harm reproductive health.
To tackle menstrual poverty, the NGO has provided a five-month supply of sanitary pads for 150 girls, with plans to extend it to a full year. Akinrotimi called on governments, sanitary pad manufacturers, and other organizations to support menstrual health initiatives.
The school’s Vice Principal, Mrs. Salmot Asekun, praised the intervention, urging more groups to help ensure every girl has access to proper menstrual care.
