NECO Extends Operations To Host SSCE And Basic Education Certificate Examination In Burkina Faso

Following a visit to schools in Burkina Faso to assess their readiness for the examinations, the accreditation team of the National Examinations Council (NECO) has expande to host the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

According to a statement issued by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, the Council said its accreditation team visited schools in Burkina Faso to assess their readiness for the examinations.

The team inspected facilities such as classrooms, laboratories, libraries, computer centres, workshops and examination halls, as well as teacher adequacy, security, sports facilities and continuous assessment records. After the evaluation, the schools were granted full accreditation.

The development reflects NECO’s commitment to delivering quality assessment beyond Nigeria, strengthening its position as a leading examination body in Africa.

It is recalled that NECO recently established a centre in London, United Kingdom, and already operates centres in Togo, Benin Republic, Niger Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Ambassador of Nigeria to Burkina Faso, Ambassador M. D. Galadima, commended NECO’s expansion, noting that it will ease the financial and security challenges previously faced by Nigerian parents who had to take their children back to Nigeria for examinations. He urged the Nigerian community in Burkina Faso to take advantage of the opportunity.

The leader of the NECO Accreditation Team, Dr. Uche Ezenwanne, said the initiative will enable Nigerian students in Burkina Faso to sit for SSCE and BECE without travelling to Nigeria.
