NAFDAC, SON Under Pressure As Nigerians Turns To Social Media To Adress Concerns Over Rising Counterfeit Products

Nigerians have increasingly turned to social media to raise alarms and expose suspected fake products in the marketplace, putti g the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) under growing pressure over the increasing circulation of counterfeit and substandard products across the country.

The concern has intensified as consumers continue to encounter products suspected to be unsafe or falsely represented. As the reports have covered a wide range of consumer goods, including food items, drugs, cosmetics and other household products, with consumers sharing pictures and videos as evidence.

The proliferation of these products has raised serious concerns about public safety, particularly because some counterfeit goods may contain harmful substances or fail to meet required safety and quality standards. The situation has also increased calls for stronger monitoring of manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers involved in the supply of such products.

As public concerns grow, Nigerians are calling on NAFDAC and SON to intensify enforcement, improve surveillance and take swift action against individuals and businesses involved in the production and distribution of counterfeit goods. Many consumers are also being urged to remain vigilant and verify products before purchasing or using them.
