NAF to Acquire Advanced Fighter Jets and Helicopters to Tackle Insecurity – CAS

The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, has revealed that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is taking steps to acquire advanced fighter ground attack jets and helicopters to strengthen its fight against insecurity.

Speaking at the 2025 Sallah Luncheon with troops of the Air Component, Operation KALACEN WUTA in Maiduguri, Abubakar emphasized that these acquisitions are part of NAF’s proactive approach to combating terrorism and other security threats.

Represented by the Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command, Air Vice Marshal E.O. Ebiowe, Abubakar noted that modern, versatile platforms are essential to addressing the country’s security challenges.

“In addition to the A-29 Super Tucanos, JF-17 Thunder, and T-129 ATAK Helicopters recently procured, we are making arrangements for the acquisition of more advanced fighter ground attack jets and helicopters,” he said.

He added that these new assets will enhance NAF’s capabilities in Combat Search and Rescue, Tactical Airlift, and Medical Evacuation, ensuring better protection for Nigerian citizens.

Beyond acquiring new aircraft, Abubakar reaffirmed NAF’s commitment to personnel development through continuous training, research, and the adoption of indigenous technologies to keep the force agile and prepared for evolving security threats.
