Fintiri Imposes 24-Hour Curfew In Adamawa Over Rising Violence

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area following escalating violence and unrest in parts of the community.

The decision, announced on Saturday, takes immediate effect and was disclosed in a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, in Yola, the state capital.

The directive comes in response to what the government described as “recent violent attacks and breaches of peace” within Lamurde. Wonosikou noted that the curfew will remain in place until further notice, adding that security agencies have been placed on high alert to maintain law and order.

The government views these disturbances as unacceptable and has directed security agencies to enforce the curfew strictly,” the statement read. “Anyone or group of persons found violating this order will be arrested and dealt with in accordance with the law.” Governor Fintiri called on residents to cooperate with security agencies and avoid acts that could further incite tension.

He advised citizens to refrain from spreading rumours or false information, which he said could worsen the situation.
“Residents are urged to abide by the curfew and provide useful information to security agencies to ensure peaceful coexistence,” Wonosikou said. He reiterated that the Fintiri-led administration remains committed to protecting lives and property and will not tolerate any form of violence or lawlessness.

Government will not condone acts of violence and will take necessary measures to restore peace and order,” he stated the development follows a series of unrest in the area, though specific details of the disturbances were not disclosed in the statement.
