Destruction of Christian Settlements Show A Clear Pattern of Targeted Extermination- CAN President

As the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) continued to raise alarm that a systematic genocide against Christians is taking place across Northern Nigeria and the Middle Belt, CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh said the ongoing killings, mass displacements, and destruction of Christian settlements show a clear pattern of targeted extermination.

Archbishop Okoh stated this in Jos during its Fourth Quarterly NEC meeting, described the brutal attacks, razed villages, and unpunished massacres as undeniable evidence of persecution. He recounted his visit to Bokkos where thousands of displaced Christians are still suffering, stressing that their trauma reveals the scale of the tragedy, while their resilience shows their unwavering faith.

He criticised the continued killings, kidnappings, and lack of justice, noting that perpetrators remain free while victims receive no compensation or resettlement. Okoh welcomed growing international attention, saying global pressure might be necessary to push the Nigerian government into decisive action to protect vulnerable communities.

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, represented by his deputy, commended CAN’s advocacy and promised that his government remains committed to restoring peace and resettling displaced persons. He highlighted the importance of collaboration with the church in rebuilding trust and promoting unity across affected regions.
