The Federal High Court in Lagos has convicted and sentenced a 33-year-old dispatch rider, Yahaya Nuru for unlawfully distributing large quantities of tramadol and other prohibited drugs.
Justice Musa Kakaki delivered the judgment after Nuru pleaded guilty to a four-count charge brought by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), stemming from offences committed in November 2025 on Lagos Island.
The prosecution revealed that Nuru conspired with two other suspects who are still at large to deal in controlled substances. He was arrested in possession of over four kilograms of tramadol hydrochloride, along with various tramadol and diazepam injections, which he intended to distribute to different buyers. The offences were said to contravene provisions of the NDLEA Act and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.
In sentencing, the court considered Nuru’s guilty plea and his status as a first-time offender. Justice Kakaki imposed prison terms of four years, five months, one month, and three years on the respective counts, alongside fines totaling ₦580,000 as an option to imprisonment. The judge ordered that all sentences and fines run concurrently, resulting in an effective total sentence of seven years.
