Corps Members Decry Delay in N77,000 Allowance Implementation

The Federal Government has failure to implement the approved increase in National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members’ allowance from N33,000 to N77,000 has sparked dissatisfaction among corps members. Despite an official announcement that the new allowance would take effect in February 2025, findings reveal that corps members still received only N33,000 for February.

Corps members from various states, including Abia, Osun, and Lagos, expressed frustration over the delay, stating that the current allowance is insufficient to cover accommodation, feeding, transportation, and other essential expenses. Some rely on additional financial support from family to make ends meet.

NYSC officials have remained largely silent on the issue, with the scheme’s Director of Communication, Carol Embu, failing to respond to inquiries. However, an anonymous senior official confirmed that the new payment has not yet commenced.
