Chief Bode George has criticised the judgment of the Federal High Court that stopped the People Democratic Party (PDP) planned national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025 in Ibadan Oyo State.
George who was the party’s former Deputy National Chairman, described the ruling as shocking and dangerous to Nigeria’s democracy, warning that it could set a bad precedent for political stability. He accused the judge of interfering in party affairs, saying such actions could undermine the autonomy of political parties and weaken internal democracy.
Justice James Omotosho issued the order following a suit alleging that the PDP failed to comply with the 1999 Constitution, INEC guidelines, and its own internal rules during preparations for the convention.
He argued that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had monitored all PDP congresses without raising any objections. Chief George called on PDP members to stay calm and follow legal means to challenge the decision. He emphasised that political parties should be allowed to resolve their internal disputes through established mechanisms, warning that judicial overreach could threaten Nigeria’s democratic development.
