While security operatives are currently engaged in efforts to track down the attackers of St Mary’s Catholic and secure the release of the abducted victims, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Niger State has confirmed that 227 people, including 215 pupils and students as well as 12 teachers.

The confirmation was issued by the state CAN chairman and Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, through a statement released on Friday.

Bishop Yohanna urged the public to remain calm and continue praying, assuring that CAN is working closely with the government and security agencies to ensure the safe return of all abductees. The attack, carried out by suspected terrorists on Friday, November 21, 2025, has intensified calls for improved security around schools across the region.
