The Nigerian Army has announced that troops from the 63 Brigade/Sector 1 Joint Task Force South-South (OPDS) carried out coordinated raids on suspected Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) hideouts in Delta State. The intelligence-driven operations, which took place between July 26 and August 1, 2025, targeted the Abacha Camp and Fulani Camp areas in Okpanam, located in the Oshimili North Local Government Area.
A total of 13 individuals were arrested during the raids and were subsequently handed over to the 63 Military Intelligence Regiment for further investigation. According to Captain Iliyashu Bawa Rijau, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, four suspects Hossanah John, Obassey Maduabichi, Nwamini Nduka, and Aguyi Uchenna — were confirmed to be collaborators with the proscribed IPOB/ESN group. The remaining nine individuals, having no proven ties to the group, are set to be released to their families under surety.
Brigadier General MA Shonibare, Commander of the 63 Brigade/Sector 1 OPDS, praised the efforts of the troops and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to preserving peace and security in Delta State. He emphasized that such operations are part of broader security strategies aimed at neutralizing threats and ensuring stability in the South-South region.
