The Anglican Diocese of Calabar, through its Bishop, Rt. Rev. Nneoyi Egbe, has reaffirmed its firm stance against LGBTQ orientations, emphasizing that neither God nor the Bible has changed on the matter. Speaking at a press conference ahead of the second session of the 12th Synod, the bishop clarified that while the church does not condemn LGBTQ individuals, it does not condone or support same-sex relationships, maintaining that marriage is solely between a man and a woman.

Bishop Egbe noted that this position aligns with other Anglican provinces globally under the Global Anglican Future Conference. He stressed that LGBTQ individuals are welcome in the church but must be open to repentance and biblical teachings. The synod, themed “Image which Thou has Set Up” from Daniel 3:18, is scheduled to run from July 16 to July 20.
In addition to theological issues, the bishop highlighted the church’s renewed focus on education, particularly through its investment in church-run schools. He blamed moral decay in society on the government’s takeover of schools from religious institutions, adding that reopening church schools is vital to restoring values and building a morally upright future generation.
