Following Governor Abdullahi Sule’s call to ban the Almajiri system and protects the children against criminal influence due to inappropriate care, the Council of Almajiri Schools in Africa has rejected , insisting that Almajiri pupils are not criminals and are well taken care.
The council’s leaders said Governor Sule should provide evidence linking Almajiri students to banditry or kidnapping. They also urged him to withdraw his statement and apologise, warning that such comments could create unnecessary tension.
According to the clerics, the government should focus on improving education and tackling insecurity instead of blaming the Almajiri system or targeting Islamic education.
