Sixty-two kidnapped people have regained their freedom after a Nigerian Air Force raid on the camp of a notorious bandit leader, Muhammadu Fulani, in Jigawa Sawai, Danmusa area of Katsina State. The strike forced the bandits to flee, giving their captives a chance to escape.
According to Katsina State’s commissioner for internal security, Dr Nasir Mu’azu, the victims fled in different directions during the chaos. Twelve are receiving treatment at Matazu General Hospital, while 16 are under military care at a forward operating base in Kaiga Malamai.
The victims had been abducted on 11 August in Sayaya village, Matazu, during a nighttime attack. Fulani’s group has been linked to multiple assaults across Katsina and neighbouring Kano State. Security forces have since deployed a quick response wing to Matazu and Bakori to curb further attacks.
Governor Dikko Radda praised the “gallant efforts” of the military and promised continuous action against banditry. He also assured that the victims would be reunited with their families once medical checks were complete, while troops continue monitoring the area for further rescue operations.
