Adamawa Killings: Senate Orders Probe,Urged Security Agencies To Intensify Their Operations in The Areas

Following reports of deadly assaults on several communities by gunmen in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa state, the Senate on Wednesday resolved to investigate renewed violent attacks and also called for the immediate provision of relief materials to displaced residents affected by the attacks, urged security agencies to intensify their operations in the area.

According to reports, Kwa, Gyakan, Rigange, Waduku and Tchobo are communities said to have been attacked, where gunmen reportedly riding motorcycles unleashed terror on defenceless communities despite the imposition of a dusk-to-dawn curfew and the deployment of security personnel to restore calm.

The resolution followed a motion sponsored by Senator Binos Yaroe, representing Adamawa South, who drew attention to the scale of destruction and human suffering in the affected areas, expressed concern andwarned that the continued violence posed a serious threat to lives and livelihoods in the communities.

Supporting the motion, Amos Yohanna, who represents Adamawa North, described the lingering crisis as tragic and deeply troubling, called for stronger collaboration between the National Assembly and the Adamawa State Government to sustain peace-building efforts.

The acknowledging ongoing efforts but insisting that more needed to be done. As part of its resolutions, the Senate mandated its Committee on National Security and Intelligence to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the attacks and recommend lasting solutions.
