LAGOS—BILLIONAIRE business mogul, Mr. Femi Otedola, donated the sum of N1 billion to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, LSSTF, to boost the security architecture of the state.
Otedola, who was represented by his daughter, Ms Tolani Otedola, presented the cheque to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at an event, held at the State House, Marina.
Speaking on behalf of her father, Ms Otedola, who assured the Lagos State government of more support, called for transparency and accountability for every penny donated to make an impact on residents.
She acknowledged the contributions of the security personnel, especially during the festive periods for adequate protection of lives and property, while encouraging residents to cooperate with the government for a more secure Lagos.
Receiving the cheque at a brief ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the donation would go a long way in creating a more peaceful atmosphere and conducive business environment for economic benefits for investors and residents at large.
The Governor noted that the donation would boost the morale of security personnel and provide more security equipment and vehicles.
Sanwo-Olu also urged other well-meaning residents “to borrow a leaf from Otedola and be intentional in joining our government to make Lagos a safer place for businesses to flourish as the commercial nerve centre of the country.”
Expressing gratitude for Otedola’s philanthropy, the LSSTF stressed the vital role such partnerships play in addressing the evolving security landscape.
Reacting to the gesture, the Executive Secretary/CEO of LSSTF, Abdurrazaq Balogun, said: “While we thank you in anticipation of your generous donation, kindly accept the assurances of the highest regard of the governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the chairman, and members of the Board of Trustees of the fund.”
