The Senegal’s footbal federation is reportedly ready to withdraw completely from CAF, saying “Football is for the fans, not for politics.” following a historic and dramatic ruling by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeal Board, which stripped them of the title and awarded it to Morocco by forfeit after the Senegal walked off the pitch in protest against Morocco late penalty in regulation time.

Rhe Senegalese government has demanded “independent international investigation into suspected corruption within CAF’s governing bodies” following
CAF’s Appeal Board applied Article 84 of the tournament regulations, which states that a team refusing to play or leaving the field before the regular end of a match is considered the loser and eliminated. However Senegal argued these clauses should have been applied during the incident itself. Described CAF’s decision to award AFCON title to Morocco “grossly illegal and profoundly unjust,” promising to challenge it in global courts and have refused to return the 2025 AFCON trophy and medals, stating that Senegal will never consider doing so.

A statement from CAF media team, “The CAF Appeal Board decided that in application of Article 84 of the Regulations of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Senegal National Team is declared to have forfeited the Final Match of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 (“the Match”), with the result of the Match being recorded as 3–0 in favour of the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF)..”
