21,000 Flood Victims To Gets 6.3 Billion FG nterest-Free Intervention Loans

Twenty one thousand Nigerians affected by recent flood disasters across the country are to benefit from the Federal Governmen intervention fund in the form of interest-free loans and each beneficiary would receive over ₦300,000 to rebuild livelihoods and strengthen food security, particularly among farmers affected by flooding.

The International was announced by the Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Yusuf Sununu during a roundtable in Abuja marking the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. He added that the ministry plans to enhance flood mitigation efforts nationwide and empower internally displaced persons (IDPs) through agricultural programs, where the government would buy 70% of the produce while 30% goes to the IDPs as direct benefit.

Director General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, stressed the growing intensity of disasters in Nigeria due to climate change, conflict, and pandemics, calling for a proactive and well-funded disaster management approach. She announced the launch of two key policy frameworks the NEMA Strategy Plan (2025–2029) and the National Disaster Risk Reduction Strategy (2025–2030) aimed at strengthening national resilience and shifting from reactive to preventive disaster financing.
