U.S. President Donald Trump has criticized Elon Musk’s decision to launch a new political party called the “America Party,” calling it “ridiculous” and a threat to the traditional two-party system. Trump, speaking before boarding Air Force One, argued that third parties only create confusion and have never been successful in American politics. He accused Musk of going “off the rails” and described the billionaire as a “train wreck” for attempting to challenge the current political structure.

The feud between Trump and Musk stems from disagreements over Trump’s massive domestic spending bill, which Musk says will dangerously increase U.S. debt. Once a close ally and head of the “Department of Government Efficiency,” Musk has since turned against Trump, accusing both Republicans and Democrats of wasteful spending. Musk claims that the U.S. essentially functions as a “one-party system” when it comes to financial mismanagement and pledged to fight lawmakers who supported the bill.
Trump did not hold back in his online attacks, using his Truth Social platform to double down on his criticisms. He blamed Musk’s shift in allegiance on Tesla’s loss of government subsidies under the spending bill. Trump warned that third parties like Musk’s only bring “disruption and chaos,” and he expressed disappointment in Musk’s recent actions, calling them erratic and damaging to national unity.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also weighed in, subtly criticizing Musk and suggesting he should focus on running his companies rather than entering politics. He hinted that the boards of Musk’s businesses were likely unhappy with his political ambitions. Musk had left his government role earlier in the year to return to corporate leadership, but the fallout with Trump escalated shortly after, turning their once-friendly relationship into a public rivalry.
