The National Population Commission (NPC) has officially signed a partnership compact on the Decentralization and Localization of Birth Registration and Legal Identity with the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), the NIMC, the UNICEF Nigeria, and Barnksforte Technologies Limited (BTL). The compact was signed by NPC Chairman, Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra, and Dr. Ibrahim Sessay, UNICEF Nigeria’s Chief of Child Protection, at the NPC headquarters in Abuja, today, 3rd July 2025.

This partnership aims to decentralize and localize birth and death registration services at the community level. The partnership is vital to improve service accessibility, enhance operational efficiency, and strengthen grassroots participation in civil registration processes, ultimately improving data accuracy and inclusivity across all regions.
It is noteworthy that the NPC has recently digitalized the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) system in Nigeria, further streamlining registration processes and enhancing overall efficiency and coverage.
The NPC remains dedicated to working with stakeholders and relevant organizations to create a Nigeria where no child is invisible, every individual is recognized, and everyone has the opportunity to contribute to the nation’s development.
