Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno Defects from PDP to APC, Observed by President Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu closely monitored from his Lagos residence as Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) at a ceremony held at the Akwa Ibom State Government House in Uyo. The event attracted prominent APC figures, including governors and key political leaders from across Nigeria, highlighting the significance of this political shift.

Governor Eno announced his decision to switch parties after thorough consultations with his constituents, framing the move as progressive and in service of the people who elected him. This defection is seen as a major blow to the PDP, with reports indicating that all 31 local government chairmen, numerous lawmakers, and most cabinet members are poised to follow suit and join the APC, signaling a possible large-scale political realignment in Akwa Ibom State.

Despite the wave of defections, some notable figures have opted out. Akwa Ibom Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Sea Port, Dr. Ini Ememobong, publicly resigned rather than join the APC, citing personal principles and political values as reasons for his decision to remain apart from the ruling party’s expanding ranks.
