A wave of shock and outrage hit Umumba Ndiagu in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State after community youths uncovered a gruesome ritual killing operation allegedly run by a native doctor known as Ichie Millions, also called Ezeani. Following suspicions about his activities, the youths stormed his vast compound and discovered underground pits used to bury kidnapped victims many reportedly buried alive. The discovery included decomposing human remains and a freshly rescued 13-year-old girl, leading to the destruction and burning of his property by the enraged residents.
The young girl, who narrowly escaped death, recounted how she was abducted alongside her father and thrown into a pit by Ezeani’s men. Her cries attracted the attention of local security operatives who intervened in time. Subsequent searches of the compound revealed horrifying evidence of ritual killings, including human remains in soak-away pits and a fully equipped shrine. Viral videos circulated online showing the ransacking of Ezeani’s house and the arrest of accomplices, including a self-proclaimed guard who claimed ignorance of the killings.
The police confirmed the arrest of three male suspects linked to the ritual activities and the recovery of decomposed bodies from a concrete-sealed pit.
According to a statement from the Enugu State Police Command, the prime suspect, Levi Onyeka Obu (alias Ezeani), fled the scene and remains at large. Authorities revealed that the compound had been used for serial ritual killings involving children, women, and other victims. The state government has since demolished the buildings linked to the crimes.
Police Commissioner Bitrus Giwa commended the efforts of local security groups and the community in rescuing the girl and exposing the atrocities. He assured the public that a full-scale manhunt is underway for Ezeani and any remaining accomplices. The Enugu Police Command has mobilized its tactical and intelligence units to ensure justice is served and to prevent the recurrence of such heinous crimes.
