Honoring Legacies and Advancing Education at COOU’s Silver Jubilee

At the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University’s Silver Jubilee Anniversary, Iyom Bianca Ojukwu and Prof. Uche Azikiwe jointly urged prominent Nigerians to contribute to the institution’s continued development.

Their appeal came during the Ojukwu Legacy Awards, where they highlighted the need to elevate the university in honor of the iconic figures it represents. They commended past and present leadership but stressed that more support is required to achieve global academic excellence.

Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Kate Omenugha reflected on the university’s 25-year journey, recognizing its growth since being established in 2000 by late Governor Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju. With 15 faculties and 73 academic programs across diverse fields, COOU has expanded significantly. Omenugha also acknowledged the contributions of late Hon. Barth Onugbolu in facilitating the legislation that birthed the university.

The event celebrated notable alumni and supporters, including industrialist Chief Emma Bishop Okonkwo, who pledged N50 million for a borehole project. Other awardees included corporate leaders and former student leaders, while the ceremony honored the university’s founding figures. The occasion underscored a shared commitment to preserving legacies and fostering the institution’s future growth.
