The Niger State Police Command has arrested three suspects who impersonated operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to abduct and rob students of IBB University, Lapai.

According to police spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun, the suspects — Emmanuel Linus, Hyelda Aliyu, and Abduljallid Tanko — posed as EFCC officials, entered an off-campus student lodge with tasers disguised as guns, and abducted two students after stealing five phones.
The suspects demanded a ransom of N10 million, later reducing it to N500,000 before their arrest by police officers who tracked their Toyota Corolla to Suleja Road. Two local informants, Mohammed Hassan and Hamisu Adamu, who aided the suspects, were also apprehended. One accomplice, Alfa James, remains at large.
Investigations revealed that the fake EFCC ID cards were produced in Nyanya, Abuja, and that Emmanuel Linus, a dismissed soldier with a criminal history, orchestrated the operation. The suspects are currently in police custody, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
