Calls for Honouring Christian Chukwu and Supporting Ex-Players

Following the death of football legend Christian Chukwu, a passionate call has been made for the South East governments and the Nigerian government at large to honour him and support his family. The speaker emphasized that Chukwu’s contributions transcended regional boundaries, as he served and made Nigeria proud both as a player and a coach. They stressed that Chukwu deserved better healthcare support during his illness and should now be immortalized for his national impact. Additionally, they suggested that Chukwu’s legacy could be honored through the creation of a special fund bearing his name to assist his family and recognize his services.

The speaker also appealed for better welfare for other aging ex-players like Emmanuel Okala and Dominic Nwobodo, stressing the need for a structured fund to support retired players who once gave their strength and talents to the nation. Criticizing the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for unpaid debts owed to Chukwu and other players, they urged immediate settlement of these dues. Acknowledging individuals like Femi Otedola who stepped in to assist when others did not, the speaker concluded with a heartfelt plea to the government to do more in preserving the dignity and welfare of national sports heroes.
